Youth Access & Support Service

Youth Access & Support Service (YASS)

Supporting family relationships and assisting young people to remain and sustain their education, training and/or employment opportunities.

YASS provides practical support that is free and confidential for young people aged 12- 21 yrs who identify as needing support with:

  • Family relationships or connecting with community/support networks.
  • School, education, training/employment.
  • Being at risk of harm or homelessness.

Youth Support and Advocacy Workers keep things casual and meet with young people in places where they feel safe. We provide information and advice to young people so they can make informed decisions and be involved in decisions that affect their lives.

Support may involve speaking or acting on a young person’s behalf, connecting with specialised services and developing practical life skills. A Youth Support and Advocacy Worker will walk alongside a young person to identify any barriers and create a plan to achieve their goals.
The Gold Coast Youth Service YASS Program is focused on providing early intervention supporting vulnerable young people, strengthening their relationships with their families and support networks.

Funded by the Queensland State Government.

We would like to acknowledge the additional support from the The James Frizelle Foundation to meet demand for our services and in supporting young people and their families on the Gold Coast.

Our Values

Social justice is about young people receiving a ‘fair go’ at the opportunities in life. It is about recognising that we are all different and respecting the inclusion and tolerance of all.

The aim of the Gold Coast Youth Service is that young people’s rights are recognised, and that they are consulted in appropriate and meaningful ways and have the opportunity to participate in decision-making that affects their lives.

Emergency Relief Program

There are many reasons why an individual or family could suddenly find themselves in financial crises. GCYS may be able to help.

If you are struggling with unmanageable debts, it’s important you act quickly – the first step in taking control of the situation is to ask for help.

Visit our Need More page and click on Financial Assistance for an additional list of services that can provide material aid, advice and support to help you manage your debts and get you back on track.

The Emergency Relief program provides financial and/or material support to meet the immediate need of people in financial crises. The program is open to all age groups.

With the outbreak of COVID-19, the GCYS will continue to provide services however, we are asking people to make safe choices to help stop possible transmission. Therefore we are asking people not to come into the service and to call us instead where possible.
