Emergency Relief

Emergency Relief (ER)

Emergency Relief (ER) supports individuals and families who have found themselves in financial crises due to an unforeseen circumstance.

Need Financial Assistance?

If you need help with financial assistance we may be able to help. You may also want to see Need More: Financial Assistance for local food aid services, ER providers near you or help with money management.
The objective of the FWC is to build financial resilience and well-being among those most at risk of financial and social exclusion and disadvantage; by improving their financial capacity and helping them deal with their immediate needs in a way that maintains the dignity of the individual and encourages self-reliance.
There are many reasons why an individual or family could suddenly find themselves in financial crises, the sudden loss of a job or reduction in employment hours, an unexpected illness, a death in the family, are all examples of how this can suddenly happen. The role of the Emergency Relief Worker is to assess an applicant’s individual circumstances and determine whether the monies sought, will stabilise the situation over the longer term.
GCYS works collaboratively with a range of service providers in administering ER, ensuring that all eligible Gold Coast residents have access, no matter which part of the Gold Coast they live in.
If you think you may be eligible to make an application and are already working with a service, then please speak with your service worker about making an application on your behalf.
If you are not already working with a service and want some advice on whether or not you would be eligible to make application, please do not hesitate to call the ER Worker on (07) 5572 0400 to discuss your situation.

Please Note: ER is open to all age groups. However, making an application is no guarantee that a payment will be approved.

Emergency Relief Program

GCYS may be able to help.

The Emergency Relief program provides financial and/or material support to meet the immediate need of people in financial crises. The program is open to all age groups.

With the current outbreak of the COVID- 19 the GCYS will continue to provide services however, we are asking people to make safe choices and to help stop the possible transmission of COVID -19.

Therefore we are asking people not to come into the service and to call us instead where possible.

Current health advice includes social distancing (1.5 metres) and good hygiene practices including regular hand washing with soap. If you need soap we have popped some into our Street Library for easy access – a good book is there too, if you are thinking of staying home.
